We can help with Academic Upgrading, Independence and Employment

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) funds a variety of adult literacy, academic upgrading and essential skills training programs.

Characteristics of the programs

  • free and confidential service
  • adult learning environment with flexible hours
  • full academic assessments and referral to appropriate program
  • individualized learning plan based on your needs; learn at your own pace
  • practical application of skills, focused on individual goals
  • variety of learning formats including one-to-one, small group, classroom with individual attention, on-line distance learning
  • upgrading job-related essential skills, including apprenticeship math, digital technology
  • preparation for attaining high school diploma or equivalency, or post-secondary programs
  • referrals to Employment Services, Apprenticeship Training and Community Service Providers

The agencies work together to provide a full range of services, from basic skills review to college and apprenticeship preparatory courses. Programming also includes a strong component of Skills for Success training for the workforce, apprenticeship and employment preparation, as well as greater personal independence.
